Size: people say 6 inches but most get about 7-8 inches, some like the king kong get up to 10-12 inches

pH: 6.5-7.5 they can handle a large range of ph.

Minimum Recommended Tank Size: 15 gallons for a normal parrot but a 20-25 for one is better. The other kinds would need a 55 gallon or so.

Native Location: they are a hybrid fish so they are not any wild ones. No one really knows the real parents of the blood parrot but the breeders.

Temperature: 76f-84f

Diet: They will eat anything given that can fit in their mouths. They will eat any frozen foods made for fish, worms like earth worms, pellets, flakes, and smaller fish.

Breeding: Male bloody parrots are usally sterile, but there are more people geting males that can reporduce. The female is different. Her eggs can be fertilize. They will breed on a rock, caves, or they will big a hole till the gravel.

Gender Differences: The males and females look a lot alike. The way of sexing them would be to watch if they breed and you see the eeg tube on the female.

Aggression: The blood parrots are not aggressive cichlids. They can be aggressive at some times but not as aggressive as the larger cichlids like red devils, midas, texas, and others. You may be the odd one that is very calm and wont be aggressive or you might get one that is aggressive, even if they are aggressive they usally dont kill other fish.

Notes: these fish are great fish. and are fun to watch. they will come up to you when u come to the tank even if they are not hungry. you can hand feed them and mine lets my pet him some times. they do good with anyfish that can not be eaten.
