Common Name: Rose-Haired Tarantula

Scientific Name: Grammostola rosae

Maximum Size: 6 inch legspan

Suggested Cage Size: Large, flat kritter keepers work great, Flat rubbermaid tubs, 5 1/2 gallon sized tanks, large shoeboxes. All these work great. Try not to use a high cage because if the tarantula decides to go wall climbing and it falls, it can hurt itself pretty bad.

Temperature: Room temperature is fine as long as it is above 72 degrees Farenheit.

Humidity: Low, around 40-60%, never mist them. It stresses them. They are desert creatures.

Diet: 3 crickets a week is fine. Can also be fed pinkies or small lizards.

Breeding: I'm not sure, but research it before you try it.

Notes: Rose-Hairs are the best beginner tarantulas because of their docile nature. They are somewhat unpredictable though. Some specimens can be very docile, while others are very aggressive like Old World Tarantulas.

Provide them with a hiding spot and a small bowl of water ( I use a gatorade bottle cap.) Clean the water bowl out if you see any large particles of dirt or feces. Eco-Earth or Peat Moss works great. I use a 75/25 mix of sand and Eco-Earth for my Tarantulas. I also add a layer of moss too.

I don't condone handling a Rose-Hair Tarantula much because sometimes they might just be in a bad mood and will not hesitate to sink it's fangs into your hand. Their venom is not powerful, but their bite is painful by itself.
