Common Name: Neon Tetra

Scientific Name: Paracheirodon innesi

Family: Charicidae

Native Habitat: Peru, Colombia, and Brazil

Temperature: 72-80 degrees Farenheit

Maximum Size: 1.5"

Ph: 6.5-7.0

Diet: Frozen and freeze-dried bloodworms are a Neon's favorite food. They'll also take flakes and very small pellets.

Temperament: Peaceful and are great community fish.

Breeding: First you need to set-up a breeding tank (a 10 gallon is perfect.) Heat the water to around 75-78 degrees and keep the water still before spawning. Do not use any substrate and have a plant or two (live or fake) in there (Make sure they're weighted down so they don't float.) The water should also have a low Ph of around 6.8-7.0. Add the male and female ( if you look above the tank at the neons, the females are the ones that are wider than the males) and dim the lights on the tank. The female will scatter eggs then you remove her because she will try to eat the eggs. The male will follow her around and prevent her from doing this. Now have the brine shrimp ready and keep the lights dim and they should hatch in around 36 hours.

Notes: These are schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of six or more. They look very good in a planted aquarium and are very peaceful to other fish. If one of your Neons gets Neon Tetra Disease, then remove it from the tank and euthanize it or put it in it's own tank. There is no cure for Neon Tetra Disease and the disease can be spread to other fish if the infected fish is left in the tank.
