Hey guys i'm a newbie on knife fish
So I got a new fish at Petsmart its called an AFRICAN KNIFE FISH
and i looked some facts on them and i put the fish in my 55 gal tank that also has 4 tetras, 2 khuli loachs and a 7 inch pleco
and inow my african knife
but when I do my daily feeding (fish flakes) I havnt seen my knife eat yet
only thing it does is hid in my make shift cave(clay pot) which is sopposed to be for my loachs
and when i turn the lights off it goes active in a split second
and i even tried putting food late at night when its pitch black and used a red light to see
but it still didnt eat it

is there a special type of food i should be feeding it????

you'll probably have better luck getting him to eat if you feed frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp while he's small. and after he gets bigger you'll be able to feed him chopped up market shrimp and various fish fillets chopped up.

if you're set on feeding "fish food", you might try some sinking cichlid pellets, my knife fish will eat cichlid bio-gold.

have you noticed any of your tetras gone missing yet? as he gets big enough to eat them they will become knife fish food.

many fish are stressed by new environments and often won't eat for the first few days to a week.. so don't panic yet. but i doubt seriously if you'll ever get him to eat flake food.
