Aphredoderus sayanus, the 'Pirate Perch', is a North American native that is relatively uncommon in the aquarium hobby. I was given a pair of them many years ago and kept them successfully in a 55 gallon aquarium for a few years. Unfortunately they did not breed for me and, since they're not common in Texas, I haven't tried keeping them again. They are decidedly carnivorous but I was able to wean mine off live food and onto carnivore pellets after a couple of weeks in captivity. Mine were very shy in the aquarium, preferring to stay hidden while the lights were on.

Hope this helps a little,

Joe
