ok.. i had a TSN for years, he was great. always greeted me when i came in the front door (his tank was by the front door). it was almost like having a puppy in a box of water. Kabota was great. He was a victim of an RTC with an upset stomach, she vomited and fouled the tank while i was doing the grocery shopping. it killed them both.

now.. a very nice young man decided to sell his TSN. his ad said the fish was 13+" and i got my Kabota when he was 15" long, so i thought he would be big enough to go in with the BIG fish. i drove 4 hours (round trip), brought him home and after a few hours of drip acclimation, and feeding the current inhabitants of the tank very well, i dropped him in the tank. he's a LOT smaller than i thought, immediately the cichla Temensis and the arowanas started sizing him up for edibility.. then the bratly cichla monoculous pair decided they needed to help pick on him.

i'm pretty sure that the only reason he survived the night is he found a spot behind the filter intakes that the big fish can't get into. i got him out of the tank this morning with skin missing off his tail, and some pretty bad scratches on his face. he spent most of today (sunday) in a bucket while i made a frame for a divider to section off the end of the tank for him so he can relax and be safe while he heals. i guess i'm going to have to set up the spare 100 gallon tank and get it cycled for him, at least till he get big enough or till i find a good home for him.

who wants a slightly damaged TSN in Southern California? ;)

ok.. this guy isn't amoung the best and the brightest of the TSN gene pool. so far, in a section of tank that has NO decorations and just a foam filter, the FX5 outlets and the sensor for the electronic thermometer he has managed to get stuck in the ONLY thing that he possibly could get stuck in, the wire for the sensor for the thermometer.

i believe setting up the 100 gallon tank and cycling it for him is the only answer.

this fish was unusually docile when i picked him up from his previous owner. he was a little beat up (by my fish), but had no serious damage, just lots of scratches. but after only 2 days, unfortunately one of them in a bucket, he died. i found him last night when i got home from work. this really bothers me now..
