Lets see 'em folks!

Hopefully I should have my pics up soon. Getting closer to completion, just spent a hefty chunk yesterday getting materials to reinforce the floor. (Don't tell Melissa how much I spent. unsure.gif)

All of my filtration is lacking a bit. As its inhabitants have grown larger and more numerous it's become obvious that I used too small of a filter. I'm in the process of redoing the whole system. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Here's some old pics, I copied one of Melissa's old posts from another board:

QUOTE (Dracofish @ Jan 22 2004, 12:37 AM)
For our pond we used 2 x 4's for the frame and 1" thick particle board (sealed against moisture, of course) lining the inside. There are two vertical 2 x 4 supports going along each side and one support on either end. The outside will be covered with 1" thick plywood and painted or stained to make it look perty. The bottom is 1" thick sealed particle board which is screwed to directly to the frame.

The inside (bottom and sides) is covered with housing insulation (pink panther baby) and foam to help keep the heat in and prevent any pinching of the liner in the corners. For a liner, we used a 40mil black rubber pond liner manufactured by Firestone. It was purchased at a pond store and was $120 for a 11.5' x 14.5' piece.

We made a home-made overflow (kinda ingenious actually) that will sit on the side of the pond and lead into the closet where there is a sump with pump (feed/water trough) and a large wet/dry system made out of PVC. The wet/dry system stands a little over 5' tall and will sit on a custom made shelf in the closet and be gravity fed back to the pond. The wet/dry will be filled partially with Eheim Efihsubstrat and partially with crushed up lava rock. All in all, there will be about 8.5' of head pressure. For a pump, we decided on a 3,600gph mag drive submersible which pushes at about 2,250gph at 9' of head pressure. If it ends up not being enough, another pump can easily be added. We haven't decided if the pond will be heated by a space heater in the room or by titanium heaters in the sump.

Please excuse the mess...  tongue.gif

Here's the pond:

Note: the liner won't be free of wrinkles till it gets full of water. Even still, it will still have some wrinkles but not nearly as many.

Here's the filtration closet:

The wet/dry will sit on top of the stand so it can be gravity fed back to the pond. It is still under construction.

Here's the wet/dry:

It stands at 65" high and 25" wide (which the bottom will sit on the top of the stand in the closet). The two large upper tubes that will hold the media are each 4" diameter. The bottom outlet is 2", which will be a gravity feed back to the pond. Inside, there will be drip plates separating each layer of media.

Here's the overflow:

From the top...the box is a 5 gallon container, 2.5 gallons on each side. The tubes are each 1.5" diameter. The bulkheads are each 1" and will be outfitted with foam prefilters, which will lead down to the sump. The overflow tubes will work by a siphon, which will not affect pond levels if the pump fails for some reason. The siphon will only work to keep an equilibrium on both sides of the overflow.

From the back...

From the front (pondside)...this will be cut to allow water to overflow into the box. The siphon created in the tubes will make the water flow up and over the box and out the bulkheads down to the sump and pumped into the wet/dry.

Looks like the pic of the closet isn't working, I'll upload it later today.

Floor support, bought all the stuff Sunday. Paint the other half of the room. Rip out the carpet and pull the annoying staples out of the hardwood. Finish up the rack to hold the filtration, mostly done, just need to put a surface on the table-like portion to hold the stuff. After its setup I have some sweet hanging tracklights to go over it that have to be hung but that's easy, just an anchor bolt in each wall and sting 'em across. That's 2 wires that go across and can be set however far apart you want, the lights can be placed anywhere on the cable.
