Common Name: Clown syno/synodontis, Clown catfish.
Size: Quite a large species reaching lengths of 12" (30cm), although usually around 10" (25cm).
pH: 6 - 8
Minimum Recommended Tank Size: A tank of 75US gallons is recommended.
Native Location: Zaire: Africa.
Temperature: 23-28C
Diet: Not a fussy eater. Most individuals will dine on anything offered to them. Having said that it is best to vary their diet offering bloodworms, brine shrimp and other such frozen foods mixed in with a good quality pellet or flake food. These fish can be quite nocturnal, so night-time feeding may be required to ensure that they get their fair share.
Breeding: Not reported in the home aquarium. They are said to be egg scatterers.
Gender Diffrences: Females are larger more 'plump' fish, males are also said to be slightly darker in color as they mature.
Aggression: Not an aggressive species, truly a gentle graceful species.
Notes: A joy to keep. This species can be alot more outgoing due to their size then alot of other Synodontis, this being said some can be very shy and secretive.
This species can often sport a large dorsal 'streamer' as they mature. This streamer is easily damanged by picky tankmates who see it as something that they can eat, and subsequently it is bitten off or damaged by other tankmates, however this streamer will regenerate in time.
