For freshwater, this is the one and only place for people in Dane county to go for exotic preds, african and south.central american cichlids. Prices for their south/central american cichlids are always very good and for Africans their prices are about average for what you would find in the city. Store is pretty small and has 80% FW/20% SW.
I dont know much about SW at all but they always carry a few different kind of SW puffers and triggers as well as your standard damsels and clowns.
As far as equipment and tanks, you can always do better. All their filters, heaters, etc can be purchased at a cheaper price from Big Als. If you are looking for tanks whether acrylic or glass avoid even thinking of getting a tank here and save yourself a ton of money by going to Aquatic World Pets in Oconomowoc, WI instead. Ill give a summary of the current stocklist soon when I go to Aquatic Specialties in the near future.
Staff is always very polite and friendly. The owner, Lee, is a real good guy who is always willing to make deals on fish whether you are buying or trading and is fairly knowledgeable. Lee always gladly places special orders for people when they request one, he was able to get me a shoal of exodons and a fahaka puffer by means of special ordering.
Overall anyone in Dane County knows to come here for community fish or cichlids or whatever type of fish you need.

I can vouch for Aquatic Specialists. In fact, I was just coming in to put up a profile for the store.
As for the Saltwater, they have a very good selection. Lots of different species, and not your ordinary groups either. These guys are very knowledgeable as well. I have called them up from here in Michigan before with questions. Worth the trip if you're anywhere in the area.

AS has sucked lately due to their blatant price discrimination.

The store has actually moved but within the same strip mall to a larger area. They have increased their saltwater capacity and now have quite a few tanks. Like I said, worth stopping in. Much better than Aquarium Superstore (used to be called Jacks).
